Burial & Cemeteries

Although a more expensive option than cremation, burial is still the preferred choice by over 30% of the UK population.

Graves can be purchased for up to four people depending on the local borough, and for between 25, 50 and in some cases 75 years.

Unfortunately, not all the cemeteries have availability, or may be at maximum capacity for new graves. This is commonly known as  a ‘closed’ cemetery, and burial can only go ahead in a closed cemetery if the plot has been purchased ahead of time.

Costs

"How much does a burial cost please?"

Sadly, there is no such thing as an 'average cost' of a burial. Costs can and will vary greatly depending on a number of factors.

The burial costs will vary depending on the borough that you choose and the type of grave that you would like.

There will be a fee made to the cemetery for burial within their grounds, and this can increase dramatically if the wishes are for the deceased to be buried in a cemetery outside of their own local borough.

If you choose the borough where the deceased lived, then it will be considerably cheaper than using another cemetery in another borough which can charge up to 4 times what they would charge a resident, and can run into many thousands of pounds.

This is particularly true of London cemeteries.
